Behind every piece of member communication that reaches a mailbox is a team working behind the scenes to make sure it is produced accurately, efficiently, and on time. At Command Direct, Tom Vogelsberg plays a key role in that process as our Print Shop Operator.
Tom has been part of the Command Direct team since 2011, gaining experience across several areas of the company before finding his home in the print shop. Over the past 12 years, he has embraced the technology, problem-solving, and constant learning that come with keeping a busy print operation running smoothly.
We asked Tom to share more about his journey at Command Direct, what he enjoys most about his role, and what happens behind the scenes to keep projects moving.

What do you do at Command Direct, and what’s your favorite part of the job?
I am the Print Shop Operator here at Command Direct. I’ve been with the company since August 2011, and during that time I’ve had the opportunity to work in several different areas.
I started in the fulfillment department before moving to shipping and receiving and then the warehouse, where I learned quite a bit about UPS Worldwide Express and managing inventory.
My next stop was the print shop, where I’ve been for the past 12 years.
My favorite part of working in the print shop is working with the ever-changing technology and learning new things all the time. There’s always something new to figure out, and every day is a new adventure.
What happens behind the scenes in the print shop to ensure every project is produced accurately and delivered on time?
A big part of keeping projects on schedule is making sure the machines are running and have very little downtime. That means making sure they have everything they need, including keeping them full of paper, and addressing any issues as quickly as possible.
When something goes wrong, getting assistance right away is important. Keeping the equipment running efficiently helps us keep projects moving and meet our clients’ deadlines.
What’s something about Command Direct’s print shop that people might be surprised to learn?
In 2020, we started doing a lot more scanning for our clients as they began moving toward digital mailroom capabilities. That part of the business has continued to grow and is still being built out today.
It’s been interesting to see how the print shop has evolved and how technology continues to expand what we can offer our clients beyond traditional print.
You’ve been with Command Direct for 15 years. What has that experience been like?
Working at Command Direct for the past 15 years has been one of the best experiences of my career. I’ve had the opportunity to learn different parts of the business, grow into new responsibilities, and work alongside some of the best people I know.
Every day is a new adventure, and I’m looking forward to many more years with the Command Direct team.
Tell us something about yourself that people might not know:
Before coming to Command Direct, I worked at PetSmart in their PetsHotel. Funny enough, that’s where I first met Gary Bolnick (President & CEO of Command Direct).
During my interview at Command Direct, Gary looked at me and said, “I know you, don’t I?” And he did! He had brought his dog to the PetsHotel a few times, and I was the one who checked him in for his stays.
What do you enjoy outside of work?
Outside of work, I’m a huge movie fan, specifically Marvel movies and horror movies. I’m also a very big reader of fantasy novels.
And after 15 years at Command Direct, Tom’s enthusiasm for learning, technology, and the people around him is clear. He summed up his experience simply: “Every day is a new adventure and some of the best people I know work here.”
