Meet Valerie Newhoff, CFO at Command Direct
A lot of what keeps a company running smoothly happens behind the scenes, and that’s especially true for the work Valerie Newhoff does at Command Direct.
As Chief Financial Officer, Valerie oversees financial operations while also supporting areas ranging from compliance and benefits administration to vendor relationships and process improvement. Her work spans many areas of the business, all with a focus on keeping operations running effectively and giving the team the support they need to succeed.
In this employee spotlight, Valerie shares what she’s learned about the people side of business, what makes Command Direct’s workplace culture special, and why accuracy and timely communication matter so much when supporting health plans and their members.

What do you do at Command Direct, and what’s your favorite part of the job?
As Chief Financial Officer, I oversee the financial operations of Command Direct, along with many areas that support the business behind the scenes, including accounting, reporting, compliance, benefits administration, vendor relationships, and process improvement. My favorite part of the job is being able to work across departments and help create structure, clarity, and solutions that make it easier for the team to do their jobs well.
What’s something people might not realize about what happens behind the scenes to keep Command Direct running smoothly?
There is a lot of coordination, planning, documentation, and follow-up that happens every day to keep things running smoothly. From accurate billing and financial reporting to compliance requirements, employee benefits, vendor management, and process improvements, many moving parts have to work together. A lot of the work is not always visible, but it is essential to supporting our clients, employees, and daily operations.
What do you think makes for a strong workplace culture, and how do you see that reflected at Command Direct?
A strong workplace culture is built on communication, accountability, teamwork, and a willingness to help one another succeed. At Command Direct, I see that reflected in the way employees step in to solve problems, support each other during busy times, and stay focused on doing what is right for our clients. Our core values—client commitment, innovation, quality, and teamwork—are not just words; they show up in the way people approach their work every day.
What’s one thing you’ve learned about the people side of business during your time at Command Direct?
I have learned that people need clarity, consistency, and support in order to do their best work. Policies, procedures, and processes are important, but so is how we communicate with them and how we help employees understand expectations. When people feel informed, respected, and supported, it strengthens both the employee experience and the overall success of the company.
What’s something about Command Direct or the people who work here that you’re especially proud of?
I am especially proud of the dedication and adaptability of our team. The work we do can be complex, time-sensitive, and highly detailed, especially when supporting healthcare communications. Our employees consistently show commitment to quality, accuracy, and client service, even when priorities shift or timelines are tight. That level of care says a lot about the people who work here.
What do you think sets Command Direct apart in the way we support Health Plans and their members?
Command Direct understands that the communications we produce are more than printed pieces or data files; they often contain important information that members depend on. What sets us apart is our focus on accuracy, security, compliance, responsiveness, and partnership. We work closely with health plans to support their needs while recognizing the responsibility that comes with handling sensitive and time-critical member communications.
Why do you think accurate, timely communication is so important to the health plan member experience?
Accurate and timely communication helps members understand their benefits, coverage, options, and next steps. When information is clear and delivered on time, it can reduce confusion, build trust, and help members make informed decisions. In healthcare communications, accuracy and timing are not just operational goals, they directly affect the member experience.
What’s something your coworkers might be surprised to learn about you?
I enjoy creating order out of complexity. Whether it is a financial report, a process, a checklist, or a policy, I like taking something complicated and making it clearer, more organized, and easier for others to use.
Outside of work, I really enjoy spending time with my family and making the most of the simple moments away from the day-to-day pace of business. At work, I am often focused on details, structure, and problem-solving, but personally I value time to recharge, laugh, and enjoy the people closest to me.
Valerie’s perspective is a great reminder that the work behind the scenes matters just as much as what our clients see. From financial operations and compliance to processes, communication, and employee support, the details all add up to a stronger organization and better client experience.
We’re grateful to have Valerie’s thoughtful, steady approach (and her talent for turning complexity into clarity) on the Command Direct team.
